Dale Park | Grizedale | |
Well off the beaten track and an ideal place for rambling, the narrow vale of Dale Park forms a cleft in the dense forest landscape between Grizedale and Lake Windermere, and encompasses the three settlements of High, Middle and Low Dale Park. | Hidden among the forested fells between Coniston Water and Lake Windermere, the beautiful valley of Grizedale offers a tranquil atmosphere as well as a vibrant forest park, with its popular visitor centre and wide range of leisure activities.
Force Forge and Force Mills | Low Cunsey
At the foot of Grizedale lies a spectacular set of falls. Here the rushing waters of Force Beck cascade out of the valley by Force Mills and nearby Force Forge, names which echo the area’s industrial past. See Force Falls movie here. | The tiny hamlet of Low Cunsey is divided from its neighbour, High Cunsey, by Cunsey Beck, which forms a natural part of the Parish boundary as well as a conduit between Esthwaite Water and Lake Windermere.
Graythwaite | Satterthwaite
Graythwaite Hall lies in the south eastern corner of the Parish and is the ancient seat of the Sandys family. The hall is closed to the public, but Graythwaite Hall Gardens are open from April to June. The surrounding wood was once a favourite haunt of William Wordsworth. | Nestling amidst the ancient woods and green pastures of Grizedale, the village of Satterthwaite is the focal point of the Parish. It has a church (All Saints), a community hall (the Parish Room), a friendly public house (The Eagles Head) and around 50 dwellings.
